NPR: All The News You Can Lose

Sir Barken Hyena writes:

I heard this report this morning, about statistics for charitable giving derived from IRS filings. The finding is the religious give more than the non-religious. Utah is the most giving state, New Hampshire the least.

But also well established is that Republicans give many times more then Democrats. The NPR story makes no mention at all of the political dimension. The words “Democrat” & “Republican” do not appear in the story. But why should they? Because the study’s author addresses this in the study. So the NPR reporters knew about it, and left it out. I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest this was done for reasons of political bias. All the news you can lose!

Study Reveals The Geography of Charitable Giving

Huffington Post is more honest, at least mentioning this angle before sweeping it under the rug. Huff Post sez:

“The study also found that patterns of charitable giving are colored in political reds and blues.

Of the 10 least generous states, nine voted for Democrat Barack Obama for president in the last election. By contrast, of the 10 most generous states, eight voted for Republican John McCain.”

Many is the morning I am reduced to wiping the spittle (from screaming at the radio) from the inside of my windshield after hearing the tax-payer funded drivel that the ostentatious, self-proclaimed intellects posing as journalists, regurgitate daily. I have to remind myself that occasionally I can catch a liberal in the act of parroting their nonsense and show them up for the drones they are. Sometimes however, for the safety of others on the road, I’m forced to switch it off in favor of some soothing music.

No doubt NPR coverage was influenced by underlying liberalism. Just as Jeff Jacoby’s editorial in today’s Globe:

    http://www.bostonglobe.com/opinion/2012/08/22/jacoby/NXAEKAAJzDeSuxK8QqG7iI/story.html

    evidences his underlying conservatism.

Jacoby is right to point out red staters give more. But they also tend toward apoplexy when they are taxed to provide similar services that they give more toward on an voluntary basis.

Now, I know there is a debate here, and that one can argue this point any number of ways. But it is incorrect, I think, to conclude that blue staters are stingy (as Jacoby concludes) and red staters are generous, It all depends on what tithe we are talking about. Most blue staters are fine paying their taxes because they 1) like the services government provides and 2) have no philosophical objection to the coercive nature of government.
