I am curious as to the function of the metal door at the bottom; clearly to heavy to be a cat flap. And it’s next to a metal plate in the sidewalk, which leads me to think they’re somehow connected. Any ideas? I don’t recall ever seeing anything like this before.

I know the pub down the street has one. They used to load the beer through it.

Something I notice about retail businesses is the condition of the sidewalks and street in front of the building. I am amazed how much attention some store owners will put into the outside of their buildings and the window displays but won’t use a pressure washer for an hour early Sunday morning to blast off the gum and grime that their patrons have to walk over to get into their establishment.
