I’ve been listening to a lot of classic albums lately and this collection sticks out as one of the best. Each song is like a little short story — the sometimes dark subject matter belied by Hurt’s warm, smooth voice and marvelous finger-picking guitar. At only $5, the album is a steal. As my friend Lloyd used to say, a copy belongs in every civilized home. Here are a few tracks for your previewing pleasure.
Excellent choice. If you don’t already know it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foiGT0JXvtk

I actually prefer the 1960s Mississippi John Hurt on Vanguard and on the Newport Folk Festival live albums. Same songs, but even mellower. But any Mississippi John Hurt is great.

I was listening to the Vanguard albums today. Love them too.
