Having seen most of the major movies of 2017, my current top 10 is:
1. FRANTZ
2. MARJORIE PRIME
3. INGRID GOES WEST
4. GOOD TIME
5. I LOVE YOU, DADDY
6. “Finding Frances” episode of NATHAN FOR YOU
7. WONDER WHEEL
8. THE TRIP TO SPAIN
9. BRIGHT
10. SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING
Still haven’t seen THE FLORIDA PROJECT, THE POST, DOWNSIZING, or TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT. I’ve seen all the other Oscar contenders.
Ingrid Goes West is indeed pretty great. .I feel like I’ve seen that story 3 or 4 times before (Talented Mr. Ripley, etc.) but it hilariously nails the confused, repressed, self-imposed vapidity of # culture.. Farming your dreams and identity out to corporate aphorisms. Someone more thoughtful than me could probably describe it better but…what a crew of dolts Ingrid tries to infiltrate!

Enjoyed The Trip to Spain, as I did The Trip and the Trip to Italy. Steve and Rob have managed to keep it continuously fresh, despite being formulaic. I hope they make another! 🙂

‘The Trip” movies were great, the verbal dueling was impeccably done, and all the more impressive that most of it was likely off the cuff.

Just saw Wonder Wheel as one of the movies you guys mentioned above. Great acting – almost a theater play – while the plot itself was a little static. Overall nice. In contrast to critics, I found Woody Allen’s portrayal of the actors, especially the main one, pretty good, but any woman in a negative light doesn’t fly with the Rotten Tomatoes crowd! Good thing this website exists so I don’t have to rely on “cultural critics”.
