If there’s a bad flu bug going around, I try to stay home as much as I can and wait for the thing to blow over. Also, staying away from restaurants is a huge help. A sick person in the back of a restaurant can spread the plague.
Lots of sleep. Unstressful exercise. Coconut oil most days and vitamin D some days. No idea if any of this helps, to be honest. The one thing I do that genuinely seems to help is to be retired. Not going to an office … Not sharing buses and subway cars with tons of other people, many of whom snuffle and cough … In the four years since I’ve been out of work, I haven’t had a flu or a bad cold. Coincidence? Je pense que non.
Amazing how bad and gloomy a cold or flu can make you feel. They aren’t generally serious ailments, so why should they make you feel so bad?
I think I’ll be taking epiminondas’ suggestion too. It sounds like a wise one.
I’m lucky — I hardly ever get colds or flus. Last bad cold I had was about 6 years ago and I can’t even remember the last time I had the flu. When I do get sick, I avoid medication as much as possible and just ride it out.

Good advice, epiminondas. I am too fatalistic about colds.

At the first signs of a cold or flu, I start taking Yin Chiao, a TCM preparation available at most health food stores. Works nearly every time.

Thank you, excellent advice! If only I had taken all your advice before getting the annoying loyal cold I got two weeks ago.
