My main thought: there’s a lot about the world that Americans REALLY don’t understand, including long-lasting vendettas between peoples we’ve barely even heard of, and cultures of death and martyrdom that make no sense whatsoever to a modern, materialistic person. As George Washington said, Trade with ’em, but otherwise avoid foreign entanglements. We’re always out of our depth when we get involved.
