Erotic? Not for me. The style doesn’t lend itself to sexual arousal. It would be like trying to get off from a Van Gogh. But it is sexy in a sleazy sort of way. You just get the feeling you don’t want to know what that woman’s face looks like.

I got a kick out of the recent Balthus exhibit at the Met. On one hand, it’s a huge liberal no-no to sexualize pre-pubescent girls, but on the other hand, Balthus must be celebrated because he shocked the bourgeoisie. The text accompanying the art was just as confused as the faces of the old women viewing the exhibit.
