It is a good example of why I so viscerally dislike a lot of art criticism. This painting has so many uncool elements: It is representational. Sentimental. Has an historical subject that helps the viewer feel the emotional context. All so terribly jejune.
And yet, according to the podcast, the have to frequently revarnish the floor in front of the painting because so many people want to look at it. What do people know? We’re all just blockheads, I guess.
