Quote Du Jour

Blowhard, Esq. writes:

Q: Did you set out to be a screenwriter?

A: No, I wanted to work for a newspaper. I had no connections, so I just made the rounds. In those days, in Vienna, there were many papers. One Saturday afternoon I got very lucky. I went up to the third floor of the city’s number one tabloid, opened a door and there was the theater critic fucking his secretary. She ran out of the room while he fiddled with his buttons. This was before zippers became popular. He asked me what I wanted, and I told him I was looking for a job. And he said, “You’re lucky I was working overtime today.”

— Billy Wilder, as quoted in 1996

I’ve always found Billy Wilder over-rated. He’s good, he’s just not THAT good.
