“One Million Years B.C.”

Paleo Retiree writes:

Fun, easygoing cavegirl/caveman adventure stuff from 1966, featuring a young Raquel Welch wearing an iconic animal-skin bikini. One group of early humans is slim, calm, well-organized and clean — they’re like Scandinavians, only they live on the beach. The other group is dirtier, darker, and prone to causing trouble and fighting. Shot in the Canary Islands, which look like Death Valley; with dinosaur-battle effects by Ray Harryhausen; directed by Don Chaffey; and produced by Hammer Studios. It’s a remake of a 1940 film. Not currently available on Netflix streaming, but the DVD only costs $8.15 at Amazon.

  1. Is it too narrow a field that saying this is by far the best caveman movie has little meaning? (Well, it isn’t if you include the remarkable “Iceman” but that didn’t have cavegirls or dinosaurs in it so let’s just exclude that.) What I always thought was rather amusing about this movie wasn’t the cave bikinis, nor the dinosaur battles nor even Ms. Welch’s artfully applied cosmetics which made her look ever so much better than the other cavegirls (even Bond girl Martine Beswick!), but the fact that she ran through the entire film (volcano ash included) with perfectly coiffed hair. Anyone see a hairbrush anywhere?

I’ve seen the original but not this one. Glad to hear it’s worthwhile. Everyone knows Raquel in the fur bikini, but I wager that relatively few have actually seen the movie.

My fave caveman movie is CAVEMAN starting Ringo Starr. Lana zug zug?
