“Venus on a Half Shell” by Alberto Vargas, 1937
Who is the bodiless head on the left?

Vargas himself, I assume. I looked around for other versions in case that was Photoshopped in by someone, but the floating head seems to be part of the original.
Why does any painter (or photographer) bother with a subject other than naked women? Seems like a waste of good paint.
Enlarge what? Or is that the joke?
