The beta is strong with these ones! Yeeessshhhh.

Amazing for how long men bought — and still buy — the feminist clap-trap that the way to a woman’s heart is cringing supplication or heart-broken pleading.

Here’s an interesting twist on this. A beta guy loses his girl to a player, and the player dumps her, and the beta takes pleasure in her getting dumped! But he still wants her back. ** sigh ** Men!

Can’t get any more plaintive and white-guy than “Pure”:

Oh man, haven’t heard that one in ages. One of the great one hit wonder hooky choruses from the New Wave scene. That along with The Records’ “Starry Eyes” and Bram Tchaikovsky’s “Girl of my Dreams.”

The “plaintive beta” song must have been getting them something, given how widespread and ongoing of a phenomenon it used to be. From the late ’50s through the ’80s, from the Everly Brothers, to Simon and Garfunkel, to Tom Petty.

It’s not an alpha vs. beta thing, since the alphas during that same period were more emotionally open than they were the strong silent type. From Elvis, to the Rolling Stones, to Bon Jovi.

Chicks used to be plaintive and yearning as well, not restrained, flaking out, or playing games for attention. From the Crystals, to the women in ABBA, to Heart.

It boils down to the outgoing vs. cocooning social climate. Outgoing: be open, express your libido (whether you’re alpha, beta, or in between, and man or woman). People are putting themselves out there looking for a connection, so you need to send a signal that you’re looking for something too. How else are all those anglers going to know that you’re looking to get hooked?

Cocooning: be reserved, play down your libido (betas shut it off altogether, go play video games; alphas pretend like you feel nothing and aren’t looking). Socially awkward / paranoid people find it creepy if you’re out and about looking to make a connection, so you have to play your cards close to your chest.

(Whoring for attention, something we see plenty of today, is not an expression of libido, which has a power over the person’s behavior that they can’t fully control. The butt-shaking girl who doesn’t want anyone to get near or touch her, is in total control of her actions and couldn’t have a lower sex drive. Attention and ego validation is the goal, not connecting.)

“He’s Back in Town” — great song find, Fabrizio! I’ve always wondered what the Four Seasons would have done with that number, obviously inspired by their sound. Probably have given it a mighty percussive bottom on the order of “Rag Doll”, and slashed straight to the heart with a fearlessly broken-hearted Frankie Valli lead vocal. This fine song coulda been a classic.
