About Fenster

Gainfully employed for thirty years, including as one of those high paid college administrators faculty complain about. Earned Ph.D. late in life and converted to the faculty side. Those damn administrators are ruining everything.

Joan Osborne is one of the last and best of the “great white hope” chick singers, a line dating back to the mid-60s. Her career began with an astounding hit (“One of Us”) that launched a cultural conversation and seemed to promise that she’d become a major force in entertainment. But as with, say, Janis Ian (“Society’s Child”) the larger awareness of her about her seemed to stop when the hit faded. Too bad, she’s a great singer who should have had a stable of songwriters feeding her original hits.
