   When we were kids, my mother used to tell us about how Lupe Velez died: She took an overdose of sleeping pills, and lay down on the bed to die a pretty death. But the pills only made her sick. So she got up off the bed, went to the bathroom, and threw up all over the floor; then she slipped on the vomit, hit her head on the toilet, and died from the impact. This may or may not be true.
