The band I blogged about here was in town last night so I headed off to my first concert in two years.
Got there a little early.
Which means we had time to hit the merch table.
Let’s head to our seats. The top picture is looking left, the bottom picture is looking right.
This asshole was on his phone all night.
The first act was Tegan & Sara, a Canadian indie rock band fronted by twin sisters.
Listen to their songs “The Con” and “Back in Your Head.”
Intermission between the opening and main act. The place is starting to fill up.
The crowd was quite varied. As I mentioned previously, the band is very bluesy so a classic rock fan wouldn’t feel out of place. The place was a healthy mix of young, old, hipsters, scenesters, surfers, bros, sorority girls (two wearing homemade t-shirts saying, “I PREFER THE LEAD SINGER” and “I PREFER THE DRUMMER”), cougars, cholos, graybeards, rockabilly chicks. There was a family in our section with their tween daughters in tow. And I heard Orange County’s token black person was able to make it, which is cool.
OK, time for the main event.
The music was kick-ass enough, but they did a great job making it a full visual experience.
Paleo Retiree isn’t the only fan of old trucks.
They brought out two huge disco balls for the encore.

What was the last great concert you went to?

I love the Black Keys, but I found their concert to be disappointing. But then, I like my bands to play around with their live sound instead of just recreating the studio versions of their songs.

I’m pretty easy to please — so long as the band sounds good and the crowd isn’t too annoying, I’m happy.
There were some variations in the songs. Some were played at faster tempos, there were a few extended solos or longer arrangements, and I noticed some slightly different fills. But yeah, they hewed pretty closely to the originals.
