- A terrific blogpost by George Hunka about the legendary publisher Barney Rosset and his great Grove Press. I did a q&a with George, who’s also a first-class playwright, back at my old blog: Part One, Part Two. And, while I haven’t read the book George discusses, the Question Lady and I both enjoyed Neil Ortenberg’s recent documentary about Barney Rosset.
- Graydon Carter’s review of a new bio of Norman Mailer delivers a lot of useful and amusing cultural history.
- An insightful piece by Will Self about the changing nature of the arts and the changing nature of arts discussions. Of course some of us have been saying these sorts of things (and even putting them into action) for a couple of decades now. But it’s nice to see the ideas start to show up in the MSM, and in such a witty and articulate form.

I’ve never been a big fan of Norman Mailer, but anyone who stated that Gore Vidal was solutely without character or moral foundation or even intellectual substance” was a perceptive observer if nothing else. RIP.
